A Day in Gatlinburg
It is time for your annual Smoky Mountains vacation and you’re starting to get your daily itinerary ready for each day of your stay. It’s hard to try to narrow everything down and choose which spots are the most important to visit when there’s so many different things to do in town. How about we help you out a bit and tackle one of those areas for you? Gatlinburg is such a treasured town and although it only consists of ten stop lights, there’s still so many exciting things waiting for you at every corner (or light, we really should say!) If Gatlinburg is where you’re planning on spending some time, then Cedar Lodge is just the place for you stay at! You’re still in the middle of all the action in Pigeon Forge, but you’re also right near the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park! There’s also multiple backroads (just ask us locals about them) that you can take to get to Gatlinburg and beat all the traffic. Another perk of staying with us is that you get FREE TICKETS to a bunch of shows and attractions in the area and one of them just so happens to be the Ripley’s Aquarium! So now it’s time to join us on our guide to A Day In Gatlinburg!
Are you a fan of one of a kind pieces that you can find from local artisans here in Gatlinburg? I recommend making the Arts & Crafts Community the first stop on your journey. Come and see what all the excitement is about when you stop by numerous shops on this trail that are featuring beautiful handmade products like pottery and stained glass and even candles! My favorite spot to visit is Alewine Pottery, they have some of the most amazing coffee mugs that I’ve ever seen (I still have to buy the crazy cat lady one for myself!) This is one of most popular destinations in Gatlinburg and is one that you and the family won’t want to miss out on!
Now it’s time to head downtown and into all of the action! I’m sure by now you’re a little hungry, I think that means we should start at Pancake Pantry. This adorably decorated eatery that gives you a real cottage feel is a popular spot for a lot of visitors thanks it it’s prime location on the parkway right near traffic light #6! Get ready to have some delicious breakfast aka the best pancakes you’ve ever had. You can’t go wrong with this restaurant, there is bound to be something for everyone on the menu! Local tip: bring cash, they do not accept credit cards.
Once you’re done eating and you’re ready to walk that meal off, it’s time to start doing a bit of shopping! You’re right next to my favorite shop til you drop area known as The Village where you will feel like you’re stepping foot into the old world. With 27 different and unique shops to visit, all filled with a wide array of pieces, you are sure to leave with something special to take home with you. They have everything from candles to pepper sauces, each offering something special when you walk in. This will become your prime shopping spot once you’ve done some window shopping at every corner! The parkway is lined with so many other incredible places to browse through like Thistle Dew Nicely and All Sauced Up. I can guarantee that you’re already contemplating a Black Friday vacation here, am I right? You just can’t beat this shopping oasis!
We all know what’s coming next, that’s right, it’s attractions time (our favorite!) Where do we even start? I’m glad you asked! I think we can all agree on the Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies! Don’t forget that you get a free ticket here for each day of your stay, so this is one stop to take advantage of. From the moment you enter, there will be a smile on your face. You will be able to see so many different species of fish and other sea life, it’s such a fun adventure at every corner. Get ready to enter the shark lagoon where you will actually be able to see sharks swimming right above your head! Keep a look out for my favorite one, the hammerhead. If sharks aren’t your cup of tea, don’t even worry about it, we’ll head on over to the Penguin Playhouse instead! You’ll get to experience their habitat first hand when you crawl through different tunnels giving you an up close view of these adorable animals. Want to get a little hands on experience? Visit the stingray and jellyfish petting zones, and don’t worry, there’s someone there to show you how it’s done! It’ll be hard to get you away from this place. Don’t worry, there are plenty of other Ripley’s attractions to visit like the Mirror Maze and Moving Theater and even their Believe it or Not Museum! You’ll find something all along your journey on the parkway to check out.
Want to see the views? I think that means our next adventure is going to be visiting Ober Gatlinburg! Climb aboard their very own aerial tramway that will take you all the way up to the top of Ski Mountain. The views are bound to take your breath away as you travel to the top. Once you exit, you’re at one incredible amusement park featuring all different kinds of rides like the Alpine Slide and their very own Mountain Coaster! The best part of all? They have a beautiful scenic chairlift that will take you to the highest point. You will get to see what our mountains truly have to offer when you witness one of the best all around views of them! This is one park that you and the family will continue to visit for years to come. The next place to go to see the views of a lifetime is the newly opened Anakeesta! Climb aboard their gondola (your choice of an enclosed one or one that is open) and get ready to reach the top and see the mountains like you have never seen them before. It’s full of pure beauty and magic up there so make sure you have your camera ready to snap a bunch of pictures! They also have some different kinds of attractions to enjoy like their treehouse playground and ropes course! And of course, there are some adorable shops to check out as well. Just wait, even more is to come here like a mountain coaster and an amphitheater! It’s definitely a spot to check out if you want to see our Smokies in all their glory.
It’s now dinner time and trust me, there is a wide variety of incredible places to choose from! In the mood for some steak? I think The Peddler is calling your name. Full of rich history and beautiful design, this original Ogle cabin is full of some of the best food I’ve ever had in Gatlinburg. From steaks to a salad bar, this place will have something delicious for the whole family and will have you guys coming back every time you visit. Want some seafood? Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is one of my favorite spots on the parkway. You will feel like you’re in a scene from Forrest Gump as soon as you walk in, they even do movie trivia at your table! The menu is full of all the shrimp (and plenty more) that you could ever ask for! It’s a great spot that will be a fun place to eat for everyone in your party.
Sadly, it’s time to head back to your condo for the night, but don’t worry, you’ll have so much to talk about after spending A Day in Gatlinburg! There’s just no better place to visit and there’s so much fun and excitement waiting for you there that you just can’t help but to have an amazing time. It’ll have your family wanting to come back for years to come. So what are you waiting for? Book your vacation now and get ready to have a great time here in Pigeon Forge and beautiful Gatlinburg Tennessee! Come and join our family here at Cedar Lodge, we would absolutely love to have you!
