Anakeesta in Gatlinburg
The doors are open to Gatlinburg’s newest, family friendly attraction! We could not be more excited to tell you a little more about Anakeesta because it truly caters to every member of the family! It offers a unique experience that you will not be able to find anywhere else and ya’ll…amazing views can be seen at Anakeesta as well. There is magic in the mountains and Anakeesta brings it to downtown Gatlinburg.
What is Anakeesta?
Anakeesta is an outdoor family attraction that is perfect for all ages. You begin your experience by taking a 14 minute ride from downtown Gatlinburg to the summit of the Anakeesta mountain. You do this by riding a chondola chairlift or by hopping on one of the enclosed six person gondola cabins. Once you arrive at the top of the mountain, you will find yourself in Firefly Village. This is a whimsical village that is made up of numerous treehouses. You will see awe and delight in both the young and the old when visiting this treehouse village! If you are an avid shopper, you will love the retail shops where you can find “one of a kind” items for you or loved ones back home. As you venture throughout Firefly Village, you will not only see those retail shops, but there will be local craftsmen and dining options as well. After you enjoy the Village, you can “soar” through the trees, in a sense, as you stroll along the treetop canopy walk. This canopy walk includes sixteen hanging bridges! They hang more than 40 feet in the air! Located at the end of the treetop canopy walk is the Gem Mine! Kids will love trying to strike it into the big leagues at this family friendly activity. Pricing for the Gem Mine begins at a low $7.95. Anakeesta also offers Gatlinburg’s fastest dual racing zip lines. This is a fun activity for brothers and sisters to truly see who is the fastest. 🙂 After all, a little healthy competition is good for the soul!
Who likes to get their blood pumping? Opening in the winter of 2017-2018, you will be able to do just that by riding their Single Rail Mountain Coaster. This unique coaster sits low and you can really enjoy the twists and turns throughout the forest as you make your way down the mountain! The Mountain Coaster is not the only thing you have to look forward to! Coming sometime in the Spring of 2018 is the Anakeesta Great Smoky Mountain Amphitheater. Not only will this amphitheater offer incredible views, but you will also be able to enjoy events and live music! We will keep you posted on the actual opening date.
Back in November of 2016, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the city of Gatlinburg had more than 15,000 acres burn during a devastating fire. The south side of Anakeesta was badly scorched. As a way of remembrance of the many courageous men and women who fought the fires, Anakeesta has opened the Forest Memorial Interpretive Trail. This Trail takes you through the charred mountain forest and reminds us to be thankful each and everyday for not only the many brave folks that helped during that time, but also for this beautiful area. #mountaintough
