2019 is in the rear view mirror and we all have 2020 to look forward to! A big part of planning for the year is getting those vacations booked. Pigeon Forge is a meca for vacationers. It entices a variety of people, from all different backgrounds. If you are more of an outdoors person, you will find plenty to do within the National Park, including hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, tubing and fishing. For many, the outdoors is not necessarily their idea of fun. Pigeon Forge offers a variety of attractions including dinner shows, rides, theme parks, water parks, go-karts and a plethora of other activities that cater to people of all ages. It is exciting to know that Pigeon Forge continues to grow. Part of that growth is additional greenway trails, attractions, shops and restaurants. Let Pigeon Forge entertain you! Below we will bring to light what is New in Pigeon Forge for 2020.
Laser Gun Coaster at Rowdy Bear at 2155 Parkway, Pigeon Forge
Rowdy Bear opened a new location in Pigeon Forge in 2019. This new location includes an Alpine Flyer, the world’s first in-air Laser Gun Experience! See how many targets you can hit along the ride and see if you can hold the highest score. This ride is a 2 seater. Riders must be 40″ tall to ride the Alpine Flyer.
Alcatraz Exhibits at Alcatraz East at 2757 Parkway, Pigeon Forge
Alcatraz East Museum is currently featuring several temporary exhibits that you do not want to miss while vacationing in Pigeon Forge.
Pieces of themed art, from incarcerated artists, will be on display through April 2020.
The museum also has a Second Amendment exhibit displayed and that will be available to see through September 2020. Some of the weapons you can expect to see are the Unwin & Rodgers Knife Pistol and “Apache” Belgium Revolver.
In May 2020, a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation exhibit will be coming.
Anakeesta Expansion at 676 Parkway, Gatlinburg
Anakeesta has become a must when visiting Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. They have added a restaurant, more incredible viewpoints, the Rambler and more since they first opened. They are continuing to grow in 2020 with their new expansion! An observation tower that will extend to 655 feet above downtown Gatlinburg will be going up at the summit of Vista Gardens. This is a wood and steel observation tower and guests can expect to have a 360 degree view of the Great Smoky Mountains. On those clear Smoky Mountain days, you can even see neighboring northern states. In addition to the tower, a new restaurant will be opening. Smokehouse BBQ & Brewhouse will feature a fully enclosed dining room as well as outdoor patio seating. In the warmer parts of the year, guests to Anakeesta can enjoy a new outdoor play area that will offer wading streams and a cascading waterfall.
Double Decker Bus Tours
The Smokies Double Decker Bus Tours is now open in Pigeon Forge. If you have traveled to major cities around the world, you have more than likely seen large red double decker buses transporting tourists around to see the sights. The Smokies Double Decker Bus offers the same experience.
Soaky Mountain Waterpark
A 50 acre outdoor waterpark will soon be opening in Sevierville. This waterpark will feature a 35,000 square foot wave pool with waves that will offer 6 foot high waves. Additionally, they will offer numerous slides, play areas, areas themed towards kids, a kids activity pool, FlowRider for surfing and a wave river. They expect the park to be open from mid-May through the end of August currently.
Coming sometime this Spring in Pigeon Forge, REI will be opening up in the Tower Shops at the Mountain Mile. This store offers outdoor gear and equipment, all suitable for those trips to the Smoky Mountains.
Pigeon Forge Chairlift
There is not a lot of information out about this new attraction to Pigeon Forge quite yet. We do know that it will be located near the Mountain Mile and Pigeon Forge Snow, off of Teaster Lane in Pigeon Forge. They hope to be open sometime late 2020. More details as we learn them!
Ogle Bros. General Store
The Ogle Bros. General Store opened up in late 2019, but since it is very new to the area, we thought we would add it to this post! This is a farmers market themed retail center. It opened up on the old site of Damon’s Grill, near Five Oaks Tanger Outlet Mall. They sell pottery, home decor, souvenirs, bath & body products, candy and much more. Be sure to check them out soon.
Celebrity chef Guy Fieri is bringing his restaurant to our area! Enjoy all natural chicken tenders, skewers, salads and sandwiches with more than 20 house-made sauces to choose from. An opening date has not been announced yet.
Byrd Cookie Company at 131 The Island Drive, Pigeon Forge
Now open at The Island in Pigeon Forge, Byrd Cookie Company got its start in Savannah, Georgia in 1924. Be sure to stop in for traditional family recipes of delicious treats!
This family owned business brings hand-crafted Georgia wines to the Pigeon Forge area. Opening soon at The Tower Shops in the Mountain Mile.
