We’re sure this is one place you’ll be itching to visit this summer and we’re just a short drive away from it. Let’s take a look at what Summer in Gatlinburg could look like!
Shopping is one of the most popular things to do in Gatlinburg, the parkway is full of quaint shops and boutiques that are all worth visiting. One of my personal favorite shopping areas to visit is The Village. You will find 27 different and unique boutiques that have everything from candles to footwear and so much more. The decor you’ll find here can’t be beat, you will feel like you’re stepping out of Gatlinburg and into the Old World! There’s also the Mountain Mall if you need to cool off a bit and want to visit some shops while you do so. The Rhythm Section is my favorite store there, you will find dvds, old vinyl records, and all other kinds of things. It’s located at traffic light #6. One of the most popular destinations to visit is also located here. The Arts & Crafts Community is an eight mile loop that shows us all the history of our incredible and talented artisans. You will find numerous locally owned boutiques where they are able to sell their handmade crafts for us all to enjoy. You will find everything from candles, pottery, quilts, and so much more. This is a must-do when you’re in Gatlinburg!
Gatlinburg is also home to so many popular attractions that you and the family are sure to want to visit. First on the list is the Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies. From the moment you step inside, you are greeted by so many incredible species of sea life along your journey. They also have fun interactive booths where you can pet a stingray or jellyfish. Want to get up close and personal with some sharks? Enter the shark lagoon at your risk, you will see them swimming next to and above you! Make sure to have your camera ready, you won’t to miss seeing them. Best of all, they have a penguin playhouse, so feel free to get lost there for hours like I always do, they’re just so cute! We are sure you and the family will love this place. Don’t forget you get a free ticket here as part of our package and you can pick up additional tickets at a discounted rate from our front office. There are also other Ripley’s attractions located here like the Moving Theatre, Believe it or Not Museum, and even a Mirror Maze.
If you’re looking to see the views and have a bunch of fun while doing so, there are two places that you will definitely want to add to your must-do list. Climb aboard the aerial tramway and get ready to see the beautiful mountains surrounding you as you ride to the top of Ski Mountain to visit Ober Gatlinburg! Here you will find an ice skating rink, wildlife exhibit, mountain coaster, alpine slide, scenic chairlift, and more. This family friendly amusement park will allow you to see the views all while on a fun and exciting adventure. New this year, they will be presenting Saturdays in the Summer where you can hear live music at their Seasons of Ober restaurant! Check out the lineup right here. Next up is Anakeesta where you get to experience the true magic of the mountains as they say. Get ready to hop onto their chondola which will take you to the top of the mountain where you will find a mountain coaster, ziplining, a canopy walk, gem mining, a treehouse playground, the vista gardens trails, and much more! If you’re wanting to see some amazing views, this is where you’ll want to be. You look out over Mt. Leconte and it’s absolutely breathtaking up there, especially as the sun is setting and you can view the lights of downtown. This is absolutely a must-see this summer!
Hiking is one of the most popular things to do in the Smokies and you will find numerous trailheads while visiting this charming town. This is one of the best time of years to hit the trails, you’ll get to see wildflowers all around you and the views on a clear sunny day just can’t be beat. Pack a picnic, pick out a hike, and enjoy one incredible day in the mountains! We know there are so many different hikes to choose from, so we’ll just list a few of our favorites that you will definitely want to check out. Don’t forget there are also two different driving tours you can go on if you aren’t wanting to go on a long walk: the Cades Cove Loop or the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, both will show off breathtaking views that will have you wanting to snap photos the entire time. Here’s some of our favorite trails:
- Grotto Falls
- Rainbow Falls
- Alum Cave
- Ramsey Cascades
- Baskins Creek Falls
- Gatlinburg Trail
Dining is also one thing you will definitely want to do this Summer in Gatlinburg! You can find some of the best restaurants around here no matter what meal you’re looking for. When it’s time for breakfast, you will want to visit Pancake Pantry or the Log Cabin Pancake House, both are amazing and have some of the best pancakes you can find. For lunch, we recommend visiting the Wild Plum Tea Room or Delauder’s (voted #4 out of 50 in the country for best bbq). Make sure to get here early, they get packed so fast. It’s dinner time, where should you go? Greenbier Restaurant is a must try. Hidden away in Gatlinburg, you will find some of the best steaks and seafood around at this special and charming restaurant. It’s full of history and I can promise you will fall in love with the food. The Peddler is also a wonderful place to visit if you’re wanting a delicious steak.
